As you might know, gedit has been ported a while ago to run natively on OS X (and on windows for that matter). Lately, the OS X port has been lacking updates. This is mostly due to the huge changes that were introduced in 3.x in much of the stack, and a lack of time. However, over the last few weeks, I worked on and off to get a proper OS X application released for our latest gedit (3.2). The installation is a simple drag and drop of the application bundle (as expected).
Not exactly the same, because in Linux you can do gedit nonexistingfile, whereas Mac's open will say file does not exist. – ChronoTrigger Mar 6 '14 at 16:34. Download for macOS. There are several options for installing Git on macOS. Note that any non-source distributions are provided by third parties, and may not be up to date with the latest source release. Download KEDIT - A highly-intuitive and powerful text editor with implemented syntax highlighter and the possibility to view and edit all commands used for programming. Linux fans will already be familiar with the world of open source desktop platform GNOME but gedit has brought it to a wider audience by providing the default GNOME editor on Macs. Gedit provides a simple interface from which you have access to a full text editor with programming functions and is compatible with most major languages.
Improvements
With respect to the previous release (apart from having all the 3.2 goodness), the integration with OS X has been improved. For example, we now ship binaries for Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard, integrated native apple spell checking, fixed issues with translations and fixed various issues with keybindings and the global menu (which annoyed a lot of people in 2.32 using different keyboard layouts).
After installing gedit and launching it, you should see something like the following:

Integration
As you can see, we have spent some effort (just as previously) to integrate gedit in OS X natively. Most of this effort is not spent by gedit, but by a small group of people doing amazing work on the quartz backend of gtk+ and on mac application integration (yes, that’s you John Ralls). I really want to thank everyone spending a lot of effort to integrate gtk+ (quartz backend) and GNOME applications (mac integration) into OS X. Without these guys a gedit port for OS X would simply not exist.
Build process
Whereas gedit for OS X was previously built by me in mixed environment of jhbuild and custom checkouts with various patches (pushed into github), this time I decided to handle things more properly and integrate the whole build process in the gedit tree as a jhbuild moduleset and accompanying patches. This also solves the issue with the previous binary for which we did not strictly adhere to the GPL, in the sense that it was almost impossible to recreate the binaries from source. This time, you can simply follow the instructions in the osx/README file and everything should be built for you the same way I built it on my machine. This meant I started basicly from scratch, which is also why it took quite some time to get everything working as expected.
Porting applications
I think that gedit is a great application showing how you can port an application using a lot of GNOME/freedesktop technologies to another platform (hopefully we will have a 3.2 for windows soon too, poke nacho ;)). gedit uses dbus, libpeas (gobject-introspection), plugins (C and python), printing and more. All of this works (or at least should work :)) on OS X, and we are getting more native with each release. If you are interested in porting your application to OS X, please feel free to have a look on how we do it for gedit.
Bugs
I expected a series of bugs and releases for gedit 3.2.6. On the one hand a lot of software has seen a lot of development, none of which were tested on platforms like OS X (or windows). On the other hand, I’m still expecting some issues resulting from building binaries on one machine for different distributions. For example, the first release was quite a disaster, crashing on launch due to some issues with iconv and a set of hard coded paths (which worked on my machine, but obviously not on others :)). Anyway, I would like to invite anyone running OS X to try and install gedit 3.2.6 and report any issues in gnome bugzilla!

gedit (/ˈdʒɛdɪt/ or /ˈɡɛdɪt/)[3] is the default text editor of the GNOMEdesktop environment and part of the GNOME Core Applications. Designed as a general-purpose text editor, gedit emphasizes simplicity and ease of use, with a clean and simple GUI, according to the philosophy of the GNOME project.[4] It includes tools for editing source code and structured text such as markup languages.[4]
It is free and open-source software under the GNU General Public License version 2 or later.[4]
gedit is also available for macOS and Windows.
By July 2017, gedit was not being maintained by any developers, but in August 2017 two developers volunteered to commence work on it again.[5][6][7]
Features[edit]
gedit is also available for Windows, seen here running on Windows 10
gedit includes syntax highlighting via GtkSourceView[8] for various program code and text markup formats including MediaWiki.[9][10] gedit also has GUI tabs for editing multiple files. Tabs can be moved between various windows by the user. It can edit remote files using GVfs libraries; (GnomeVFS is now deprecated). It supports a full undo and redo system as well as search and replace.[11] Other typical code oriented features include line numbering, bracket matching, text wrapping, current line highlighting, automatic indentation and automatic file backup.[11]
Download plugin sketchup. The features of gedit include multi language spell checking via Enchant and a flexible plugin system allowing the addition of new features, for example snippets and integration with external applications including a Python or Bash terminal.[11] A number of plugins are included in gedit itself, with more plugins in the gedit-plugins package and online.[12]
Since version 3.20 gedit uses gspell for spell checking.[13][14] Free game belajar membaca untuk anak tk untuk.
gedit has an optional side pane displaying the list of open files and (in a different tab of the side pane) a file browser. It also has an optional bottom pane with a Python console and (using gedit-plugins) terminal. gedit automatically detects when an open file is modified on disk by another application and offers to reload that file. Using a plugin (in gedit-plugins package), gedit can save and load sessions, which are lists of currently open tabs.[12]
gedit supports printing, including print preview and printing to PostScript and PDF files. Printing options include text font, and page size, orientation, margins, optional printing of page headers and line numbers, as well as syntax highlighting.[15]
In late 2013 and early 2014 the application received major upgrades for Gnome 3.12, with a new, cleaner user interface and code base improvements to make it work better with other desktop interfaces, such as Unity.[16]
Valencia is a gedit plugin that turns gedit into a lightweight IDE for Vala.[17]
Architecture[edit]
Being part of the GNOME Core Applications, gedit 3 uses the GTK 3.x and GNOME 3.x libraries. The GNOME integration includes drag and drop to and from GNOME Files.
gedit uses the GNOME help system for documentation. It also uses virtual file system and GNOME printing framework.[18]
In December 2008, gedit binaries were made available for macOS and Windows.[19]
The last version for Windows 32-bit was 2.30.1, released in 2014.[20] Standalone releases for 64-bit Windows continued, with Version 3.20.1 released in 2016.[21]
Current versions of gedit (3.0+) for Windows are also available through MSYS2 and can be installed via the built-in Pacman package manager.[22]
